Lake Hamana Cheki Chance!

Lake Hamana Cheki Chance! (浜名湖チェキチャンス!) is a first-person interactive musical photography experience that invites you to spend a relaxing afternoon by the shores of Lake Hamana with Hatsune Miku. As the song unfolds, you’ll capture special moments using a limited number of instant-film “Cheki” shots, gradually filling a scrapbook of memories tied to the song’s lyrics.

You can play the game online, no download required, for desktop and mobile, at https://slash.itch.io/lake-hamana-cheki-chance

This year I assembled an awesome team and participated for the third year in a row in the Hatsune Miku “Magical Mirai 2026” Programming Contest!

The contest challenges developers from around the world to create interactive experiences synchronized with Hatsune Miku songs using the TextAlive App API, combining music, technology, and creativity into unique experiences.

Our project combines a WebGL 3D environment with synchronized lyrics and music, dynamic character animation, mobile motion controls, and a photography mechanic that turns each playthrough into a personal collection of memories.

Although our entry didn’t make the finals, I’m incredibly proud of what we built and wanted to share it with everyone. I have documented my part of the development history in 26 daily posts! these were private up to now following the contest guidelines, but you can now check them out on their own blog category.

I also can’t talk about this project without highlighting the incredible work of the team.

Juan Camilo Alcaraz created a beautiful custom animated 3D model of Hatsune Miku in her Lake Hamana summer outfit, as well as the atmospheric lakeside environment. He also animated Miku’s dancing and expressive poses to synchronize with the music, giving the experience its charm and personality.

Juan Carlos Garcia crafted the sound effects that brought the world to life, DintiMusic composed the title screen music, and Valentina Cossio came to the rescue at the very last moment with a beautiful logo that gave the project the perfect finishing touch.

Beyond the contest, this project became a fascinating exploration of interaction and game design. The biggest challenge was probably finding the right balance between player freedom and a carefully directed experience. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to life!
