La Pensadera: Day 3

Published by

on

La Pensadera is a narrative strategy game inspired by the experiences of earthquake survivors. You don’t fight monsters, you fight to keep moving forward. Every day brings new challenges: guilt, nostalgia, illness, hunger, loneliness, and painful memories. You won’t be able to deal with everything. You’ll have to choose what to face today and what must wait until tomorrow. Play online at https://slash.itch.io/la-pensadera

As I did some playthroughs of the game, there was something I didn’t like a lot: problem tokens just kept accumulating at a frustrating rate, even beyond the underlying message of gradually being able to overcome.

I did some experiments so that instead of getting 3 new issues every day, you only got two. It took some efforts to balance it and make it still feel challenging, but I think I managed to. I also did another revision to the tutorial text to remove redundant bits and make it easier to read.

Finally, I added “rock” backgrounds to the challenges, to further differentiate them from the opportunity cards and communicate more of the burden they represent.
