Worked to populate forests with different type of trees, and added additional “off-screen” rows of trees to provide visual continuity. Had to tweak the rules quite a bit since initially it looked like a fruit salad with many different kind of trees mixed up. In the end I landed on primary and secondary species per screen, spreading through the different rooms with a noise function, and then a third outlier species appearing randomly.

Another big change was making most of the screens much more dense; 80% of the rooms are now full of trees making it feel like a real forest you are transversing (although I decided to keep some amount of clearings)

Made lakes irregular shaped lakes with sand corners, and populated them with ducks.

Also included season transitions, so every 5 in-game days there’s a gradual spring to autumn transition, instead of having some “autumn” screen patches.

I further tweaked the transitions so that some elements which are autumn exclusive don’t happen all of a sudden. For instance, if a screen is populated by rabbits and autumn comes, they will remain rabbits and only become foxes when you return to the screen,
