1884: Golf Over Africa – The Colonial Court [v0.14]

1884 – Golf Over Africa is a strategy game where players step into the shoes of late-19th-century European colonial powers and settle the fate of the African continent through an absurdist “golf tournament” twist: you take golf shots to invade or occupy territories on the map, with each nation’s military strength, logistics and leadership stats influencing how far and accurately you shoot and how likely you are to conquer or defend land. The first player to achieve a set score wins, blending grand-strategy themes with lighthearted multiplayer competition and even short historical blurbs on the real Scramble for Africa, all while combining tactical depth with casual, local multiplayer fun. 2026 starts with two new versions for Golf Over Africa.

The “cards” game is back, but improved! instead of adding up the numbers on the cards, you only score points for “court” cards (J, Q, K). This makes combat more balanced and fair while still giving an advantage to high military nations. This is coupled with improved visuals and animations.

There were also UX and visuals improvements including adding animation to some text labels so they have rolling numbers instead of changing immediately. I also added icons and tooltips with the stats.

Rebellions were introduced, nations may lose territories as they rebel against colonial rule; the chance and the rebels depend on historical data.

In addition, I fixed some abnormal states after victory, and buggy behavior for the tooltips in touch devices

For some reason I keep working on the game in spite of not many interest shown on it. I still think it’s one of my best and will probably keep improving the gameplay. I wonder if the historical setting may be scaring people away.
