And today’s the last day for good. I was away most of the day in a family activity, and I stayed up late into the night filling the submission form yesterday so it wasn’t really a super stressing last day… more like hoping nothing critical happened and if so, there was some time left to fix it.
Through the day, alcaraz detected something worth fixing: The position and appearance of the Torii gate wasn’t very good; he transformed it into a proper 3D model (it was just a billboard) and also noticed there was a layering issue with the sun being placed in front of the bridge at the distance. He fixed those and thought he had sent the changes to his branch in the repository.
Deadline was 10PM COT, I didn’t really rush into things but still managed to address some important last minute stuff.

One first concern that was still dangling was the game size; since this is going to be evaluated via web (and, if we reach the finalists, it will be a massive voting, probably via mobile), it was worth looking into it if only it would help us not lost too many impatient players.
I examined the asset preloading sequences finding some errors, but also detected some super heavy audio assets that I had to cut short. I also removed the ambient sound from the initial preloading to the title screen, since we need to have people looking at the title screen as soon as possible.
After these tweaks, it was time to integrate alcaraz work but, alas, it was nowhere to be found. It seems he had some issues pushing these changes to the repo so he had to send them to me last minute via WhatsApp.
Integrating the update Torii was straightforward and it really looked better; for the changes on the Sun I had to do some last minutes changes in the calculation of the sun height based on the time of day (since alcaraz pushed it far into the back, the perspective made it look too low for the photos). This also led me to implement a hard cap on the simulation time to 8PM, to prevent weird lighting scenarios.
And that’s it for now! now we wait for the juror’s decision to see if we make it into the finalists… fingers crossed!
