Senatus – Dies LXXIII

Continued work on Achievements, wiring them to in-game events for rank promotions- confirmed they are populated on Steam’s side.

Integrated the new versions of the buttons with a full outline for the hover, and cleaned up the repo to remove older ones.

Started implementing the “mentor” character, he’s going to be your first opponent and the idea is he’ll also remain permanently in the exploration phase to aid you (for now, I’m thinking he should remind you what target color is the next debate)

I invested a lot of time getting the onboarding tooltips to be sized dynamically based on the dynamic height of the text they contain and whether the “Next” button was visible. You know, that kind of small polish that maybe not everybody perceives but cannot let myself ship without it.

In the end it was something like:

  • Popup Container
    • Content Size Fitter
      • Vertical Fit: Min Size
    • Vertical Layout Group
      • Control Child Size: Width
      • Child Force Expand: Both
    • Children
      • Border
        • Layout Element
          • Ignore Layout: true
      • Popup Body
        • Vertical Layout Group
          • Control Child Size: Width
          • Child Force Expand: Both
        • Content Size Fitter
          • Vertical Fit: Min Size
        • Children
          • Message Text
            • TextMeshPro – Text (UI)
            • Content Size Fitter
              • Vertical Fit: Preferred Size
          • Button

The border element is needed because I was too lazy to actually edit the popup background image to include a border – as they say in Colombia, the lazy guy works the double.

Next up

  • Continue implementation of mentor character, persistent tips in exploration mode
  • Program animated transition to debate
  • Infrastructure for hardcoded tutorial
  • New achievements:
    • Win a game starting with 3 or less cards of the target color
    • Earn 2 diamond cards in a single day
  • Add preview of card placement effects

There are also some outstanding questions about progression and persistence which may make more work pop…
