Slashie’s Keep – Day 7 – The Obby

Slashie’s Keep is a 3D representation of my professional journey through game development. Instead of browsing projects in a chronological list, visitors can walk through a virtual keep where each floor represents a year of my career, filled with the games, prototypes, technologies, and collaborations that defined it. You can check it out at https://slashie.net/keep. This devlog documents one more step in that ongoing journey.

Day 7 – The obby

I thought it would be cool to add more varied activities to be done within The Keep beyond just getting info about the projects and their authors. Kind of small games existing inside… I’m thinking of a different game per year.

The first idea I had was a 3D platformer, to take advantage of the environment we already have, something the visitors could straight jump into without having to explain any additional controls of mechanics. Just jump your way to the top, surviving moving and blinking platform to win… but what do you win?

High atop the vertical obby, you’ll find an artifact, the Senatorial Decree of Absolute Power. Collect it and you’ll have the first of many artifacts scattered through the keep. Collect them all and… I don’t know yet, maybe you’ll get to face the final boss, the lord of the keep.

As for the process to make it, a first round by claude got most of it right, but of course it needed hints to see how fun and playable it felt (metrics an AI cannot yet understand). Some of the biggest changes including the need to switch contextually to a third person perspective, and correct it so that jumping felt fair, as well as tweaking the positioning of the floating platforms so that there was some challenge on these segments.

If you have any ideas for artifacts for the other years, let me know!
