Horns of Dominion – Day 9

Managed to slot a lot into the game today, and made it public asking people to test it out! You can check it out at https://slashie.net/js13k2026/ (at least for now, will likely move that to itchio at some point)

The first change was adding fatigue to prevent units from rushing through the world doing hit and run missions without a consequence, they will now tire when attacking so your fresh guard units will have a better chance to hunt them down.

Added back the Unit detail cards, since when the map was too crowded you just couldn’t see the details of all units in the fray.

I also added the calendar of the Mazurian Age, 13 months of 28 days and with them a better metric of success: how many days does it take you to win the game. This was compounded by the scenario selection: I removed the explicit random scenarios, instead you start from one of three seeds meaning replayability comes from scenario and kingdom selection, and the competitive aspects comes from, how quick can you conquer scenario X with kingdom Y.

Finally, I added a simple onboarding guiding players through city selection, unit creation and movement. Short but hopefully enough to trigger players into discovering the remaining systems. In order to make room for this I had to remove a feature that I wasn’t really using in all of my playtests: rebuilding walls at the expense of diamonds; so now it’s done automatically as time passes by (and for free)
