Bill’s Forest – Day 8

Published by

As I continue developing the game I decided to make the posts public again but I wont be revealing spoilers for content you can find deep into the forest because.

Fixed bugs with the New Game option not taking you back to the start, and failing to obtain keyboard focus some times

Added birds populating the forest! they really give some life to the scene, they stay around for a bit and fly away if you get close.

Replaced graveyards with patches of giant mushrooms, and made sure they could be rendered in small grids like mobile 2x.

I integrated new ambience and sound effects sent by Gecko for the caverns and for falling asleep.

Improved the caves rendering scene to remove non reachable “holes” so they look much more tight now.

Allow walking into your house in the starting screen; when you stand in the door or are inside, you can see the house interior which has a bed, and a desk with some books. When you are outside you see the roof. Also built support for future similar structures you’ll be able to find.

Also improved the onboarding to be more visual instead of relying on texts players don’t read nowadays, so it now gives some hints for movements and to move between screens. It took some iteration.

Semi Spoilers:

  • Added a pretty cool rare encounter with some mysterious forest creatures.
