Bill’s Forest – Day 7

Added auto save when the player moves into a new screen, so that you can explore further in several sessions. You can start a new game at any time from the new settings menu, where I also added controls for environment and sound effects volume, and also moved the zoom toggle.

Talking about zoom, while I’m leaving the 1x option, I’ve set 2x by default and I think it’s much more playable and enjoyable and visually pleasing these.

Changes in the caves: Populated them with bats and had the crawlers only appear in the outer ring. Also added endless darkness pits in addition to the cave lakes, which required some wrangling with the rendering logic.

As the project keeps growing it’s time to change it so that it’s no longer a single huge index.html file (although Claude has handled it quite well so far), especially because I’ve started looking into replacing the placeholder AI pixelart with proper stuff made either by me or a professional artist; I’ve contacted friend carenalga as suggested by quietgecko (they are back working together), but also contacted Oskar Alvarado, an artist from Mexico who does awesome art and I’ve always wanted to work with… let’s see what can be arranged.

Talking about Claude, one thing I’m really enjoying is the possibility to develop from my phone; since this isn’t running in Claude code but rather a normal Claude session, I’m able to prompt, tweak, and test from my phone. It’s very enjoyable.
