Pixel Centurion – Day 10, massive pixelbattles

Published by

Development had been stuck for days – I attempted a huge refactor to abandon the DOM elements used for the UI (especially for the scenario creation) and instead render all on a single canvas, in an attempt to have a more homogeneous look. Alas that took a dark turn into trying to come up with a light ui library.

I scrapped that idea and instead went back to the interesting part: experimenting with the gameplay and massive armies, so here we are 1000 vs 1000 units.

The main challenge to get this working was performance, had to do some grid subdivision in order to keep these units moving and the game flow not disrupted.

The real challenge, however, is how to make these battles interesting.
