Emerald Woods is a survival and exploration game where you escape modern life to live alone in a mysterious, procedurally generated world filled with forests, lakes, caverns, and strange creatures. In this turn-based sandbox roguelike, combat isn’t the focus, but rather survival, creativity, and discovery: you can build shelters, farm food, tend animals, fish, craft tools and furniture, and explore abandoned buildings to uncover the secrets of the extinct Genco corporation scattered throughout the land. The game offers a chill experience with activities like cooking, painting with natural pigments, and navigating different seasons, encouraging players to choose their own playstyle each session.
The current version is available for free in “Earlier Access”, playable on browsers and downloadable for Windows at https://slash.itch.io/emerald-woods
It’s been a long time since the last version of Emerald Woods, so here’s a new one!
Foundations for a new season: Fall. For now it’s mostly visual except for slightly lower temperatures; will dig more into the differences in the future, but it looks cool right?
The taming system is also having some changes introduced; no longer do all animals universally enjoy the Knock Nuts found in the forest but rather they love different types of food as well as the engineered “POK Bowl” meal, which can be found scattered on the Genco Stations. Taming will now take some time so you may have to find a way to entrap the animal so you can feed him for several days in a row. There’s also a new command to examine the world around; you are no longer bound to your immediate surroundings but rather can examine any tile in the viewport. This includes examining creatures to see how they feel about you.
The crafting/cooking UI has been improved to display a description of the item/station to be crafted or cooked; this is especially useful to introduce players into the crafting stations and what they are going to be able to build using them.
Talking about the crafting UI, it’s also been greatly improved for the mobile responsive version; you no longer have to navigate using the soft directional keyboard but can rather select the recipes directly by taping on them. These improvements are also rolling into the main inventory UI for next version (actually they somewhat work on this version).
Emerald Woods lives!
