MMProcon26 – Day 3D

I decided to try going full 3D, initially the idea was to only do it for the Miku model, with the intent to more easily add animations and have it react to the changes on lighting. I also thought this way both artist would be able to contribute much more (especially Alcaraz). As a test, I initially used a Miku model from sketchfab.

The idea initially was to keep both the car and roadside environment as illustrations, to keep an anime style without having to create geometry for the static scene.

I kept thinking on what games or interactive elements to add, we still have a lot of empty useable space to the right.

Moving on, I did some tests with animated models. I tried to integrate a different model, sporting a more complex materials structure which made mapping a bit of a pain but finally got it “working” (it didn’t look as good as the first one, but it’s temporary anyways as it’s extremely heavy for production use). The idea was just to see how the scene looked with an animated character.

Later on during the night, I went on a spree and decided to try to do without being inside the car, to give space to the scene overall. To improve the night scene, I added streetlights and made tweaks to the moon illumination, and improved the clouds to use textures. Finally, I added a test 1992 Nissan Silvia S13, because you had to get there somehow right?

I had to step away from the computer for a bit so I gave some thoughts to the interactions beyond the visuals… currently I’m thinking that you will be able to grab words and drop them either into the world to fix missing things (like store signs missing a letter?), or just store them so you can then use them as stamps in your scrapbook.

Then maaaybe adding the possibility to take pictures so that at the end of every song you can assemble a scrapbook page with your pictures and the stamps of the words you captured.
